How to Apply
Applicants to the Foster School of Medicine apply through the Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service, known as TMDSAS. The application process includes submitting the primary application, completing the Foster School of Medicine secondary application, and providing all required materials by the published deadlines.

Submit the primary medical school application through TMDSAS. TMDSAS provides application instructions, deadlines, required documents, and submission guidance for Texas medical schools.
Apply through TMDSASComplete the Secondary Application
The secondary application is independent of the TMDSAS application and becomes available after May 1. Applicants who submit their TMDSAS application by November 1 receive an email invitation with instructions to complete it. The secondary application fee is $100 and is nonrefundable. The secondary application closes at 5 p.m. MST on December 1.
Submit Required Materials
Submit all required application materials by the appropriate deadlines. Required materials may include transcripts, test scores, letters of evaluation, the secondary application, and any additional items required by TMDSAS or the Foster School of Medicine. Official transcripts should be sent to elpfostertranscripts@ttep.edu.

Advanced Standing Applicants
The Foster School of Medicine considers transfer applicants for advanced standing into the third year only when space is available. Eligible applicants who are acceptable for consideration may be invited for an interview.
Guidelines for Eligibility
- Legal residents of Texas are preferred; applicants who are not Texas residents may be considered within the 10% limit for out-of-state residents in class size.
- Must be currently enrolled, or have completed credits, in good standing at a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
- Must have completed at least 90 hours of undergraduate work at a fully accredited U.S. or Canadian school.
- Must have completed the second year of medical school by the start of third-year clerkships (mid-May).
- A student dismissed from or who has withdrawn from another medical school is not eligible unless that school indicates in writing its willingness to reconsider the student for admission.
- Must have taken and passed Step 1 of the USMLE and submitted a letter of withdrawal from their current school before beginning the third-year curriculum, if accepted.
Requirements for Application
- A completed application must be received by January 15.
- Applicants must state in their personal statement the reason for their request for advanced standing admission.
- Official transcripts from all undergraduate colleges, graduate schools, and medical schools must be submitted.
- Official MCAT and USMLE Step scores must be forwarded to the Foster School of Medicine.
- At least two letters of recommendation are required, including one from the Dean or Dean of Student Affairs at the applicant's current medical school confirming good standing.
