Program Admission Requirements
All applications to the Accelerated B.S.N. track are reviewed in an individual and holistic manner. No single factor determines admission. Academic criteria, including cumulative GPA, science course grades, and failed or repeated courses, are important factors in admissions consideration.
Academic Requirements
Applicants must meet the following academic admissions considerations to be reviewed:
- Minimum GPA: A minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA is required for both overall and science GPAs. All grades earned at all schools attended are calculated in the admissions GPA.
- Prerequisite Courses: All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better prior to enrollment.
- Credit Hour Completion: Applicants must have completed at least 44 credit hours of the 55 total required prerequisite credit hours at the time of application. This must include all four required lab science courses:
- Chemistry (4 credit hours)
- Anatomy and Physiology I (4 credit hours)
- Anatomy and Physiology II (4 credit hours)
- Microbiology (4 credit hours)
HESI Assessment Exam
- The HESI Assessment Exam must be submitted with the application.
- Applicants are encouraged to use the HSON Department ID when registering.
- All required sections must be completed in one seating.
- Official scores must be dated within one year of the application submission date.
- View the HESI Assessment Flyer
Additional Considerations
-
Criminal Background Check:
- All applicants who receive offers of admission must consent to a criminal background check.
- A history of criminal conduct or convictions may result in withdrawal of the admission offer.
- Review the Criminal Background Checks policy in the HSON Student Handbook
-
Eligibility for RN Licensure:
- The Board of Nurse Examiners has identified circumstances that may make a potential candidate ineligible for licensure as a registered nurse in Texas.
- Review licensure eligibility requirements before applying if you have questions about your eligibility.
- Review NCLEX-RN Examination Eligibility in the HSON Catalog or visit the Texas Board of Nursing website.
