Research & Scholarly Activity

The Texas Tech Health El Paso Family Medicine Residency Program fosters and encourages resident scholarly activity. In accordance with ACGME requirements, all residents complete at least one scholarly activity project during their three-year residency, with many choosing to participate in multiple projects. 

Resident Research & Scholarly Activities

• Quality Improvement (QI) projects

• Participation in funded and non-funded basic science and clinical outcomes research

• Abstracts, posters, and presentations at regional and national conferences

• Educational lectures and presentations, including grand rounds, journal club, and case presentations

• Contributions to book chapters and textbooks 

Faculty Mentorship & Research Support

Residents work closely with experienced faculty mentors to develop and complete scholarly projects throughout training. The program provides research opportunities for residents interested in academic medicine and research-focused careers while fostering the skills needed for lifelong scholarly engagement. 

Evidence-Based Practice

The curriculum emphasizes the application of evidence-based medicine and equips residents with a strong foundation in the legal, ethical, and regulatory principles that guide high-quality clinical practice. Residents are encouraged and supported in integrating these principles into patient care and scholarly work.
