Student Health Insurance Program(Academic Health Plan)
Texas Tech Health El Paso students must maintain health insurance that meets the university’s requirements while enrolled. Students may use the university-sponsored AcademicBlue℠ plan or submit a waiver each semester if they have other qualifying coverage.

Enrollment and Waiver Overview
Enroll in the University-Sponsored Plan
Use the AHP enrollment and cost page to review eligibility, coverage costs, enrollment periods and dependent enrollment information.
Waive the University-Sponsored Plan
Students with other qualifying health insurance may submit a waiver request each semester. Review the waiver requirements and deadlines before submitting documentation. A waiver is not approved until Academic HealthPlans confirms acceptance.
Qualifying Life Events
A qualifying life event is a major change that may allow an eligible student to enroll outside the regular open enrollment period. Enrollment is typically required within 30 days of the event, and supporting documentation is required.
Examples may include loss of existing health coverage, aging out of a parent’s plan, loss of eligibility for Medicare, Medicaid or CHIP, or arrival in the United States mid-semester as an actively enrolled international student.
