3rd Year Rotation

The Family Medicine/Surgery Rotation is an integrated 16-week clinical block that introduces third-year medical students to both family medicine and surgical care.

During the family medicine segment, students complete:

• Four weeks at the Texas Tech Family and Community Medicine Clinic on Kenworthy
• Two weeks with a community family physician or preceptor

Students may spend no more than four continuous weeks in any one discipline.

During the surgery segment, students complete:

• Six weeks of General Surgery
• Four weeks of Surgical Electives

At the end of the 16-week block, students take the Family Medicine and Surgery NBME examinations.
