What is an Area Health Education Center (AHEC)?

An Area Health Education Center is a resource for students and other career seekers interested in health careers and for communities and providers who want to improve the health of their communities.

Desert Mountain AHEC is located in El Paso, Texas and is part of West Texas AHEC located in Lubbock, Texas. Our center serves six counties: El Paso, Hudspeth, Culberson, Jeff Davis, Presidio and Brewster.

To improve the healthcare industry by leading the nation in the recruitment, training and retention of a strong healthcare workforce for undeserved communities.

Our Goals

• Increase the number of students who choose to enter healthcare careers.

• Provide students of the health professions with real-life experiences in community and rural settings.

• Increase career satisfaction among healthcare professionals by providing technical assistance and free or low-cost continuing education opportunities.
